29 Weeks (and a day)

Here are a couple of pics from today. The one of Ken and I doesn't show much belly because of the black dress and the angle, so I'll also include one of just me with more of a side view...

I seem to be scrunching my face weird in this one; probably because it was SOOO bright out that I couldn't hardly keep my eyeballs open!

KaBAM! BAM!

Well, it's been a fine how-do-ya-do kinda afternoon! I volunteered to drop Sali's granddaughter off at home on my way home from work today. As we crossed straight through an intersection, a car in the left turn lane suddenly decided he wanted to turn right (or go straight, I'm not sure which). Either way, he ended up turning right into us. He hit the front, driver's side wheel and scraped along the side, bounced off, and bumped the back wheel and fender. Oy.

I felt really bad for him (a very nice man) because it was a borrowed car and he said he'd never been in an accident before (he was probably in his 50s). The insurance card he gave me (and the cop) was from the glovebox of the car and not his own, so we'll see how that works... Looks like I'll be driving a rental for a while while the Accord is in the body shop! Good thing we have rental reimbursement coverage on our policy.

Fortunately, no one was hurt (that we're aware of at this point, anyway). I hope the baby slept through it. :o) He kicked me all the way home from the scene, which is comforting, so I'll put my feet up a while, have some water, and see how I feel. Anyway, here she is; my poor new baby car, all smooshed up!

We're SOOOO Zen....

I love making progress with the baby stuff.... Fun! We did an about-face with the crib bedding last night and picked a different set (it's called "Zen Baby" by Kimberly Grant). It's retails for more than the other one from JCPenney, but we like it better and it gives us more color choices for decorating. But, since it wasn't available on any of the sites we registered on, we had to get it ourselves. Anyway, I found it on clearance on a baby website today, so it ends up not being any more than the original pick, so I just jumped right on it and BAM! It's done!

Now I need to pick a complementary fabric for the glider/rocker we want from JCP. I've got Ken going over the options... I like the one shown here (sage), but I want to make sure we get something that'll be useful for general purpose after we outgrow it in the baby room. After that's done, we'll be done with the skeleton of the nursery.

Oh. My. Gosh. We're going to have a kid.

Generation Next

Ken and I bought our crib today! Anyway, the crib he fell in love with last Friday (Generation Next by Baby's Dream) at another store in the valley was out of the question, because Baby's Dream's delivery time for special orders is guesstimated at 10-12 weeks minimum. Not good enough for me!

So we've been out and about trying to find something else. We started by going to Burlington Coat Factory's Baby Depot, but weren't impressed at all with anything there. Then we drove to a place in Simi Valley called Cribs 2 Teens. They had a TON of good quality stuff. They're in the process of adding on to their store. As soon as they're done, they'll be the biggest baby store on the west coast!

The owner, Larry, (who personally knows the author of Baby Bargains, the industry's baby equipment equivalent to Consumer Reports), has decided to stop carrying the Baby's Dream line because of their long, unpredictable shipping times, even though the quality is excellent. So, he happened to have the exact crib and the three-drawer changing table flip dresser in stock in the correct color. (When you're done using the changer, the unit flips over to be a dresser.) We said we weren't planning to buy the changer (which retailed for $550 at the other store), because "we're poor!" So the owner, Larry, said, "Well, if you buy the crib, I'll just give you the changer/dresser, because it does me no good by itself since it's the last of that line I have in the store." RAH! So, we bought it, and it'll be delivered and set up sometime this week. Exciting!

Here's the set, though ours is in a slightly lighter brown color. Pretty, huh?

The store is having a tent sale next weekend, so we'll probably go back to see if there's anything else we want sooner than later. We like the store and owners so well that whatever we don't receive as gifts from our registries at Babies R Us, JCPenney and Target, we'll go back and buy from Cribs 2 Teens.

Speaking of registries, I need to go back and make some revisions before our first shower next month!

28 Weeks

Holy smokes! How is it possible that we're already 28 weeks? That's the third trimester! Only 10-12 weeks to go! Sorry about the flat/stringy hair. I don't seem to have the energy to do the curling sometimes lately. Especially now that it's getting longer (which means it takes more time and effort to style). It'll be a pony tail summer!

Why do I hear rain?

Ken woke me up at 8:15 this morning to report that it was raining in the kitchen. Huh?! I followed him in there (half-awake) and saw that, in fact, there was water raining in from around a couple of the recessed lighting fixtures in the ceiling. Yikes! I grabbed a bucket to catch the run-off, and he bolted upstairs to wake the neighbors and find out the source. Apparently, their ice maker malfunctioned and the lever that tells the water hose to fill the unit for ice was stuck in the ON position, and just kept running (for who knows how long). Lovely. So they got that turned off, thank goodness. Tried all day to reach D.R. Horton's customer service center, to no avail. Finally went over to their trailer that's still on-site here for the new construction and found our rep (they have just given him a new cell phone in the past day or two, and not set up voice mail yet). He's going to come by tomorrow with his moisture meter to see if the drywall is wet (um, yes, probably so). Excitement!

New Chairs

We stopped by Sam's Club this afternoon to buy two of these chairs. We'd seen them Friday and decided we like them and they'll work perfectly in our revised living room. My mom is going to take the loveseat and chair from our leather set. We'll flip the sofa so it faces the new TV, which will be hanging on the wall, we'll get a large storage ottoman, and the two chairs will go against the wall that has the TV, facing the couch. Can't wait to see it put together (but we'll have to wait until mom gets here to take the other pieces...).

We got flattened...

Well, after more than a year of less-than-subtle hinting from my dear husband, today I finally gave in and we purchased an HD flat panel LCD TV. We got the 47" Vizio Gallevia, thanks to Costco's unbeatable pricing. It's 1080p, of course, which is what we were holding out for to "future-proof" it. Nothing, of course, is future-proof, but perhaps it'll hold us a little longer than a previous-gen model would've. Right now it's sitting on the old entertainment center, but Sunday he'll hang it on the wall so we can get rid of the component center to make room for some other stuff we're doing in the room. Anyway, here's a pic from a few minutes ago...

In other news, there really isn't any. The baby is growing fast. I'm 27 weeks today! Baby is moving a lot, to the point of being able to see the movement from the outside. Seriously cool.

3D/4D Ultrasound

Today we went for the first of two elective 3D/4D ultrasounds. Today is 26 weeks 3 days; the next will be at about 30 weeks. Here's a link to the album on PictureTrail, and here are some pics — click to turn the pages....
