A few recent photos

Asher loves Brady. Brady, not so much love for Asher. But he's remarkably tolerant.

Ash found Mommy's Virgin America headphones and listened to the music in his head for a good half hour.

One afternoon we went to the park in our development. A few high school kids were playing around with a basketball, which Asher immediately snagged. He loves to play ball!

He also loves the slide.

Snow

We did have a smidge of snow this morning. Most of it turned to water
as soon as it hit the ground, but you can find little piles around
bushes.

The Atlantic

It was sunny and warmish (50?) this morning, but it's turned colder
and overcast midday. There are rumors of possible snow flurries
tomorrow. Our condo is in the building on the far right.

Charleston

Asher hasn't seen much of Charleston yet. He didn't sleep at all
today, so within moments of settling into our rental car, he crashed.
I'm typing from the parking lot of our hotel, where we're letting him
rest a while before hauling in the bags.

12 on the 12th

Inspired by my online homegirls, I'm doing a photography/scrapbook project this year called 12 on the 12th. Basically, you just take 12 pictures on the 12th of each month, showing real life that day. I'm focusing mostly on Asher, of course. Here are two versions of today's entry; same photos, but one is fancy (with hard to see pics), and the other is plain (but with bigger photos). Click the images to see the full size versions. These pictures are raw/unedited. Perhaps I'll find a better system for creating the collages in future months, but tonight's was a quick and dirty just to get it done.

Rambling

I took Asher to the park this afternoon while Ken napped. There was a boy there, Titus, 4-years-old, who took a liking to Asher and tried to teach him how to play soccer, helped him up when he fell down, picked him up (!) to bring him out of the flower beds, etc. He'd walk along the path next to him with one hand on Asher's back to guide him. It was SO cute. Made me want another boy.

Asher is obsessed with mandarin oranges. I get the kind in the little fruit cups, because he won't eat them fresh. Well, he probably would if I'd peel all the fibery parts off so it's just the pulp, but that's a lot of work. So I get the prepared ones and just dump the juice and rinse them in water to get the sugar off. He'll eat THREE of those cups in one sitting. Maybe more if I'd let him. His diaper is full of pulp!

We're supposed to go to the church's annual progressive Christmas party tonight, but Asher has a wet-sounding cough and Ken has felt bad all week, so we may not make it. Fine by me, really; I'd rather stay home and work on my photobooks. I finally got ALL Asher's first year pictures that came from my camera onto Shutterfly. Now I have to upload his professional pics and I'll be ready to go.

Sweet boy

Asher loves his stuffed doggie, which is being used most like a pillow
these days.

Hazelnut oil

I'm eating supper at Sky City, the restaurant atop the Seattle Space
Needle. The view is gorgeous!

My meal hasn't arrived yet, but they brought crusty rolls to dip in
hazelnut oil. Unbelievably delicious and flavourful. Yum.

Walgreens 31 cent special...

Walgreens had a Halloween special where if you bring in a kid in a costume, you get a photo, photos on CD, and greeting card for a whopping 31 cents. So here's ours! This is definitely the cheapest photo shoot we've EVER done!

Punkin' Patch

Today we went to the Faulkner Family Farms pumpkin patch in Santa Paula. It was a lovely valley surrounded by hills/mountains. They had a hay ride, food booths, crafts, gardens, a petting zoo, and so on, in addition to the obvious pumpkin patch. It was a gorgeous day, and Chad and Danette joined us for the outing.

Aren't they gorgeous?

This is one of my favorites... It just warms my heart right up (not that it was cold to begin with!).

Hard-headed

I'm so thankful for Asher's hard head, literally. The kiddo took a spill off his dresser/changing table and tried to break the edge of the window sill with his forehead before bouncing off the side table and landing on his head on a soft kid chair on the floor between the two. He wailed for 5 minutes, pouted another five, and was over it. I, on the other hand, am still feeling like the first place winner in the bad mom of the year award category.

He found a roll of wrapping paper under a cabinet and marched around with it a while. It was short-lived entertainment, though.

A rare sighting of Asher wearing shoes. He is NOT a fan, partly because his foot is so wide that it's a real struggle to get them on in the first place.

Happy baby

Took a break from the meetings in Denver to take Ash to the park. It
was cold (45ish), but he loved it. They had the best playground I've
ever seen.

Asher's 1st Birthday!!

I can't believe my baby's a year old! We celebrated tonight, on his actual birthday, so that was extra special. He was about an hour old one year ago right now. Here are a few pics from the party:

Asher's favorite part of the night was having Brady lick the frosting off his fingers.

I made the cake. It turned out great, but I should've started earlier. In all, it took nearly five hours, and one of those ran into the party time. Oh well. Anyway, it's the Baby Einstein caterpillar. Each of those body segments is 6" around, to give you an idea of the size.

Not-so-green smoothie

For those who had reservations about the green smoothie, here's the
same base, only with berries instead. They turn it purple, so you
don't have to play mind games with yourself. ;-)
