I'm behind on photos, but wanted to get this exchange down before I forget... This morning, Asher woke up and called for me. I climbed out of bed, pulled on my clothes, went to the bathroom, and headed for his room. When I walked in, he was on his knees with his hands folded.

Me: Good morning, baby doll!
Asher: Shhh, mommy, I praying.
Me: Oh, OK, I'll sit quietly over here in the chair.
Asher: ((Still kneeling with hands folded and eyes closed.)) Dear Jesus, thank you for my food. Thank you for sleep. Thank you ((mumble, mumble, can't understand what he said here)) .... AMEN!
Me: Amen!
Asher: OK, mommy, I ready to get up now.

Asher's got a nasty cold, and was feeling especially snugly tonight. We never want him to be sick, but we definitely enjoy the extra cuddles when he is.

Gerry and I walked over to the Westin where I'm scheduled to stay during GC. It's the tallest hotel in the U.S. (they said), and from the 59th floor, I could feel it swaying. Not sure I'm too keen on that. There was a lovely view of the Dome and GWCC from up there, though... They're replacing all the windows, many of which were knocked out in a tornado last year. It's a 15-month project, and they won't be done by the time we get there this summer, but having the scaffold out the window adds a little intrigue.

Today we toured the George Dome and Georgia World Congress Center, where we'll have the 2010 world session -- commonly known as General Conference (or G.C.) -- of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. They were preparing for some motocross-type event, which explained the dirt floors.

So my kid can pick up stuff with his feet. This is a genetic gift from both sides of the family, so it was destined to be. This morning, he started picking up elastic hair bands from the floor of the bathroom and transferring them to his hand (while standing up). Pretty coordinated for a just-turned-2-year-old, I'm convinced.

He's started scolding and/or cautioning himself, as well. This morning, as he picked up daddy's cordless powered screwdriver, he said, "Careful..." He usually tells himself, "No!" before doing something he knows he shouldn't. But he generally does the thing anyway. :o)

One of my favorite sayings right now is, "Good job, baby!" which he uses to congratulate himself on jobs well done.

His vocab is too big to count now, and he'll mimic any word. This is definitely the most exhausting age, but also the most fun and rewarding.

1. We went to a bluegrass concert at the Peter Strauss Ranch. Asher and I try to escape the heat under an umbrella.

2. Asher plays with a tickley piece of wild grass.

3. Daddy and Asher stroll the trail, waiting for the music to start.

4. Mom was away for the weekend, so I fed her dogs while she was gone. This is Kami.

5. It was HOT at the concert, and Asher had fun with the water bottle.

6. Brady went to the Rainbow Bridge Monday, July 6. We're not ready to let go of his things yet, including his bed, which smells like him. I've had nightly sobs curled up there for a week.

7. Asher has a thing for cables, and likes to hang them around his neck. Gotta watch him close! He can even play a game of peek-a-boo while tied up.

8. After his bath, Asher started feeding Daddy's belt through the holes on the side of his slide. He's interested in the fact that when he pokes it through on the inside, it appears on the outside.

9. Our shaved ice didn't last long in the summer heat.

10. I made some strawberry freezer jam with a couple boxes of berries I picked up in Santa Barbara last weekend.

11. We have tablets that color the bathwater, and it's Asher's favorite part of the ritual.

12. One of Mom's tomato plants from last summer came up again on it's own this year, and it's bearing a bit of fruit. Small bits, as you can see.
